April 2013 Newsletter

Lessons resume on April 22nd as usual.

We are in the homestretch now... heading toward the end of lessons in June.  It's been a great year!  We will be celebrating with our Spring Recital!

Spring Recital
 Friday, June 14th, 2013
7 pm
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
Martintown

This is our final concert for the year.  It is a great way to end the year, to show what we've learned and share it with family and friends.  Please dress for performance (no jeans). Invite family and friends to attend... there's lots of room for them. If your family would like to bring some refreshments, you are welcome to do so. This recital is an important part of "what we do" so it is my hope and desire that everyone will give it priority.

Directions:  Find your way to Martintown.... Google maps can help.  Turn north towards Apple Hill.  The church is on the left about five buildings from the bridge. It is a red brick building.  There is parking available behind the church and on the street.

Reduce reuse and recycle

If you have old music books that are in good condition hanging around that your child is not using or has outgrown and you would like them to find a good home, you can drop them off here and I will make them available for free to students that can use them.... if it is a book that I don't have a copy of in the studio, then it will be added to the studio library to be made available to students.

Summer Camps

The registration date for summer music camp is fast approaching.  These camps tend to fill up quickly as I only accept a limited number of students.  If you are still looking for a brochure click here. You can send in your registration with a post-dated cheque for June 15th to hold your spot in the camp. Payment will guarantee your spot if one is still available.

Because I have a number of younger beginners, I am thinking of holding 2 Fortissimo Camps... one for younger students (6 - 7 yr olds)  and one for older students (7 - 12 year olds that are more advanced)  So if the following people are thinking of coming, let me know and register so I can prepare a camp for your age group if I have enough that are interested:

Drew, Danika, Andrew, Melody P., Kieren, Thomas, Phillip, James, Ryan, Sam

Only 8 students will be accepted and the camp will be held in August as the "Adventure" camp. It will provide a great review for returning students.

Website

I am continuing to evolve the website.  Now you are able to sign up for automatic email updates. Just look for the button on the right hand side of the blog under the list of "pages". I will still send out an email to notify you of when Newsletters are available.  However, with the automatic update, you will receive all blog posts as well.  I'm not one to post something new everyday, but occasionally when there is something interesting, like a concert to see, or a youtube view that is fun etc I will post something.

Festival Results

I am so proud of all of you and how you did at the Festival this year.  If you scroll down you will see that I have posted some of the results from the festival as they were happening.  Great job everyone! If your result does not appear, shoot me an email with the information and I will post it... the only reason it is not there is that I have missed getting it from you at the festival.  Got some pictures you would like to share?  Send them on to me and I will post them with the results... always great to have some visuals!

Dates to remember:
June 14th - Recital
June 13th - last day of lessons (unless you have arranged for summer lessons)
June 15th - Last day to register for summer Piano Camp

Festival Results

MCM Festival Results

Please do not put too much stock into  these results.  They are just one person's opinion. Overall, Cedar Grove students did very well.  The highest marks we saw given at the festival were 90% and our studio has a number of 90% and first place finishes to be proud of. Those were exceptional performances. Everyone did their personal best this year! Let's use the comments we received to keep moving ahead in our learning!

Piano Camps 2013

Just an update on Piano Camp 2013

Registrations are beginning to come in for these camps now. If you are interested in holding a spot, you may send your registration in now, along with your payment post-dated for June 15th.
I can not hold a spot for you without payment, so if you have spoken to me and said that you are interested you need to understand that you do not have a spot in the camp until payment is received.

I have some interest in a camp for very early beginners... those that have had lessons for a year, but are not nearly as advanced as those that may be signing up for the Fortissimo Camp. The Adventure Camp in August would be the best camp if you have only had lessons for one year and are between the ages of 5 and 7.

If you do not have a registration form, you can get one
